WHEN IS SOMETHING URGENT?
When can you call this emergency number? Here is an overview of a number of situations in which you should contact us.
CALL US
- when you feel your question really can't wait until the next morning
- when you're really worried
- when you find yourself in a situation which you (or someone close to you) regard as urgent
SITUATIONS DURING PREGNANCY
- bright red blood loss, more than a panty liner
- if you feel the baby moving insufficiently, or less than you are used to
- with a combination of symptoms that may indicate high blood pressure, such as seeing stars, nausea, vomiting, a feeling of tightness in your upper abdomen (as if your bra is too tight)
- if you have had a (traffic) accident
- painful and regular contractions of the uterus before the 37th week
- amniotic fluid loss before the 37th week
SITUATIONS DURING CHILDBIRTH
- in case of meconium-containing amniotic fluid (green or brown amniotic fluid)
- bleeding in large quantities, more than a menstrual period
- in case of frequent contractions: For your first delivery: two hours of contractions every 3 minutes. With every subsequent delivery: one hour of contractions every 5 minutes.
- In case of pushing urge
SITUATIONS AFTER CHILDBIRTH
- baby's hypotension or fever
- maternal fever
- too much blood loss, more than two full pads an hour.
- breathing problems in the baby
- If the woman has not been able to urinate by herself for 6 hours after the birth.
- If the baby looks blue, for example if it has blue lips. Hands and feet can be blue, that's normal.
- call the midwife on duty during the day to report your arrival home after the delivery under the supervision of the gynaecologist.
- call the midwife on duty during the day for non-urgent questions about mother and child during childbirth.
