Maternity care during childbirth

If you give birth at home or at the Spaarne Gasthuis in Haarlem on an outpatient basis under the supervision of a PUUR Birth Centre midwife, a maternity nurse will be called to assist you with the birth. In the region, there is a special group of maternity nurses under the banner of the Rondom Zwanger These maternity nurses are specialized and receive continual training in accordance with the latest insights. Through their training they know exactly what to do in every situation during childbirth. They not only help the midwife, but also support you when necessary. She gets the things ready for the birth, helps you breathe away contractions and assists the midwife. After the birth she takes care of you and your newborn baby and helps with the first feeding. We aim for you to breastfeed your baby within the first hour. If you want to bottle feed, she will help to prepare the first bottle.

The maternity nurse keeps a close eye on you and your baby. Of course, there is room for you to enjoy the first moments together as a family in all peace and quiet. Taking a shower or freshening up is nice after giving birth. She helps you with this. She also makes sure the bed is changed, so you can lie in a fresh bed again.

Once the midwife has gone home, your maternity nurse will stay for a while. She makes sure that everything is clean and tidy and gives you explanations and tips for the first night. After that we decide which maternity assistant will be with you for the week.
