WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF A MISCARRIAGE?
In the first 3 months, the chance of having a miscarriage is about 10 percent, so this is in 1 out of 10 pregnancies. However, women who smoke, women who are overweight, or women who are older have a slightly higher chance of miscarriage.
HOW OFTEN DO I GET AN ULTRASOUND?
You can have several ultrasounds at our clinic. In the beginning of the pregnancy, around 7 or 8 weeks, there is often the early ultrasound. The term ultrasound is to determine the due date and you can choose for the 20-week ultrasound to screen the anatomy of the baby. If necessary, additional ultrasound scans may be conducted in the second half of the pregnancy. These are on medical grounds. If you also want to have a nice look at your baby, you can have a ultrasound for fun.
I AM UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A GYNAECOLOGIST. CAN I MAKE USE OF THE CARE OFFERED BY PUUR geboortecentrum?
Yes, you can! During your pregnancy you can for instance attend a pregnancy course with us or have a ultrasound for fun made. For your maternity period it is important that you register for maternity care and for maternity visits by the midwife.

Yes, you can. Everyone living in the working area of PUUR kraamzorg is welcome!
WHICH PAINKILLERS CAN I TAKE WHEN I'M PREGNANT?
It is safe to take paracetamol during pregnancy. You can take a maximum of 6 tablets (of 500 mg) per 24 hours. If you need to take paracetamol for several consecutive days, consult your doctor or midwife. Other painkillers such as ibuprofen or aspirin are not recommended during pregnancy.
WHEN SHOULD I CALL WHEN LABOUR STARTS?
This depends on each individual situation, which is why the midwife will discuss this with you personally during the consultation hour. In general, the calling instructions as stated on this website apply. The most important rule is: always call us if you are worried or if you think it is necessary.
IS GIVING BIRTH AT HOME DANGEROUS?
For healthy pregnant women without a medical indication, it is safe to give birth at home. Scientific research shows that for someone who gives birth for the first time, it is equally safe to do so at home or in the hospital. For women who have given birth before, it is even safer to give birth at home!
WHAT DO I TAKE WITH ME TO THE HOSPITAL FOR THE DELIVERY?
It is always handy to have a bag or a suitcase ready for when you must go to the hospital. In it you put things for yourself and the baby. You can find a complete list for your hospital bag here.
