Medication

Medications can be harmful during pregnancy. Especially in the first 12 weeks. During this period, all organs in the fetus are formed. Harmful substances, such as medicines and drugs, can then lead to birth defects. The placenta protects the baby from outside influences. Despite this, many substances can still cross the placenta and reach the baby. This depends, among other things, on the size of the molecules of the substance. Many medicines are known to have an effect on the baby during pregnancy. Your GP, pharmacist or midwife can tell you more about this. They use the classification of the RIVM.

If you are pregnant and need to take medication, always check first whether the medication is safe to use. This way a lot of anxiety can be avoided.
