Ovulation

In most women, ovulation is about 2 weeks before your period is due. Now is the time to get pregnant! An egg is only suitable for fertilization 12 to 24 hours after ovulation. Sperm, on the other hand, can survive up to three days in ideal conditions.

YOUR CYCLE

Your cycle is the entire period from one period to the next. The first day of your period is therefore day 1 of your cycle. If you have a 28-day cycle, you usually ovulate around the 14th day. If your cycle is shorter or longer, ovulation is on an earlier or later day. The moment of ovulation can differ per woman, but also per cycle.

You can get pregnant if you have had intercourse anywhere between 2 days before ovulation and 1 day after. With a cycle of 28 days, that is from day 12 to 15. If your cycle is a bit longer or shorter, then your fertile moment is slightly later or earlier.

SIGNALS FROM YOUR BODY

Some women can feel their ovulation. If you don't feel it, there are also other signals from your body that indicate your fertile period. Around ovulation, your vaginal discharge becomes very thin and sticky, and you can pull wires with it between your fingers.

The cervix also changes. During ovulation, it becomes flatter and soft. If you are not fertile, it is hard and stiff, like the tip of your nose. You can feel your own cervix with a finger in your vagina.
