Contraction storm

With a contraction storm you have 6 or more contractions in 10 minutes. It is often difficult to keep track of how many contractions you have, because the contractions often overlap. As a result, you cannot catch your breath between contractions. It can occur spontaneously, but you see it more often in an induced labour. A storm of contractions can exhaust the mother, but the baby can also suffer from it. During a contraction, your uterus contracts, so that your baby gets less oxygen for a while. As a result, a child can see a little blue at birth. Usually this is harmless and quickly disappears.

During a contraction storm it is extra important to watch your breathing and to stay calm. Also try whether it is reduced by heat, for example taking a hot shower. pain relief may be an option and in some cases the gynecologist may administer contraction inhibition.
